This is only a sampling of the Firearms Classes we teach. There are many distinct courses that may be tailored to your specific requirements. Pistol I – Basic Pistol
This is a firearm safety class for beginners. This isn’t meant to be an expert marksmanship training course. Those with little shooting experience or no prior knowledge about guns should take this course. A lot of attention is paid to safe gun handling, as well as the rules surrounding proper weapon handling. Each of our Firearms Classes is structured around a set of objectives. This includes gun safety, parts and components, operations, ammunition, maintenance, basic postures and shooting techniques. We also go through recommendations for for continued learning. Students who complete this course will meet the Basics of Pistol Shooting (ILT) national standards and will be awarded a formal certificate of completion.
Need: Firearm (or rental package), 100 rounds of factory ammunition, eye & ear protection (prescription eyewear acceptable), and a positive attitude required.
Course Length: Approximately 8 hours including live fire training.
Pistol II – Home Personal Protection
The Home Personal Protection Firearms Classes are popular among students who want to protect their families, homes, and surroundings. This is a intermediate-level course. It is necessary for all students to have completed and passed the Basics of Pistol Shooting class before enrolling in this course. Students learn how and when they may utilize their weapon to defend their homes. They also learn how to make a “safe room” and other personal protection options. We discuss how to discourage thieves, preventing unauthorized use of home firearms, controlling confrontations, home defense laws, shooting techniques for personal defense and accuracy, and interacting with the police after an incident.
Upon successfully passing this course, students will meet Personal Protection in the Home national standards and will receive an official certificate of completion.
Need: 9mm handgun or greater, 100 rounds of factory ammunition, eye & ear protection (prescription eyewear acceptable), and a positive attitude required.
Course Length: Approximately 8 hours including live fire training.
Pistol III – Outside the Home Personal Protection
The Outside the Home Personal Protection Firearms Classes are designed for individuals who wish to conceal carry a firearm in public and protect themselves and their families. This is a concealed carry level course. Prior to enrolling in this course, students must have completed and passed the Basics of Pistol Shooting and Home Personal Protection courses. This goal-oriented course teaches the student how to build a defensive mentality, cover and concealment principles, basic tactical reloading and defensive shooting skills, the proper way to hold an attacker at gunpoint, holstering choices for optimum effectiveness, skill-building methods that are effective, laws connected with concealed carry transportation across state lines and traffic stops, and proper interaction with the police after an incident in the aftermath of incident.
Upon successfully passing this course, students will meet Personal Protection Outside the Home national standards and will receive an official certificate of completion.
Need: 9mm or great handgun, appendix holster, 200 rounds of factory ammunition, eye & ear protection (prescription eyewear acceptable), extra magazines, and a positive attitude required.
Course Length: Approximately 14 hours including live fire training.
Pistol IV – Defensive Pistol
The Defensive Pistol program deepens the student’s understanding of basic pistol and concealed carry skills while also teaching them advanced defensive shooting tactics. This objective-oriented advanced training program includes challenging range exercises and in-depth lessons, one-handed and two-handed shooting, shooting while moving, awareness and mental preparation, concealed carry principles, low light situations (when available), utilizing a backup weapon, reload under pressure. Upon successfully passing this course, students will meet Defensive Pistol national standards and will receive an official certificate of completion.
Need: Handgun, holster, 300 rounds of factory ammunition, eye & ear protection (prescription eyewear acceptable), and a positive attitude required.
Course Length: Approximately 6+ hours.
These classes are in completion order and the ones above are prerequisites for the later classes. *
Rifle I – Basic Rifle
This is the first introductory course for Basic Rifle in our Firearms Classes and training course. This is not a marksmanship class. This class is recommended for those who are new to rifles. We will be conducting extensive training and in-depth safety principles including the 4-rules for safe firearms handling. This objective-based class offers instruction in all facets of rifle ownership including safe gun handling, rifle parts, components, operations, ammunition, range safety rules, shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing, and kneeling positions. Continued opportunities for skill development is discussed. Upon successfully passing this course, students will meet Basics of Rifle Shooting national standards and will receive an official certificate of completion.
Need: Long Rifle or AR-15 (or rental package), 100 rounds of factory ammunition, eye & ear protection (prescription eyewear acceptable), and a positive attitude required.
Course Length: Approximately 8 hours including live fire training.
Rifle II – Intermediate Rifle
This intermediate level is for individuals who have finished the Rifle I: Beginner Rifle Training or Basics of Rifle Shooting courses and are ready to advance their abilities! To help you attain your target quicker and become a better shot, Rifle II uses cutting-edge training methods. Students who finish this course will be able to shoot about 50 percent more accurately. This prepares them to take advanced courses such as Rifle III!
Need: 200+ rounds of ammunition, eye/ear protection, and minimum .22mm caliber rifle.
Course Length: 6+-hour course. Must be 18 or older
Rifle III
This advanced level is for individuals who have finished the Rifle II: Intermediate Rifle Training or Basics of Rifle Shooting courses and are ready to advance their abilities! The major aim of Rifle III is to improve marksmanship and manipulation resiliency while “on the move.” This is an advanced level class. The objective is to teach students what their bodies must do in order to deliver rapid, precise shots. Students learn how to shoot from unfavorable positions. They’ll also learn how to deal with several/moving threats while on the move and remain accurate.
Need: 300+ rounds of ammunition, 2 magazines, eye/ear protection, and rifle.
Course Length: 5+-hour course. Must be 18 or older.
Shotgun I
This is one of our basic Shotgun Firearms Classes which includes safety and training. This is not a marksmanship course. This class is suggested for individuals who have never handled a shotgun before. The 4-commandments for safe gun handling are emphasized, as well as extensive training and sophisticated safety concepts. In this objective-based course, you’ll learn all there is to know about shotgun ownership. This includes safe gun handling, rifle components, operations, and ammunition. Range safety regulations, shooting postures and methods are also covered. We also talk about ways you can use to further develop your skills. After you complete this course, students will have met Basics of Shotgun Shooting national standards and will receive an official certificate of completion.
Need: Shotgun, 100 rounds of factory ammunition, eye & ear protection (prescription eyewear acceptable), and a positive attitude required.
Course Length: Approximately 8 hours including live fire training.
Shotgun II – Skeet/Clay
PRIOR TO SHOTGUN II, YOU MUST COMPLETE SHOTGUN I. One of the greatest features of a shotgun is that it can be used to hit a moving target much better than a bullet. This is because it shoots a pattern of pellets from the gun so it has a wider spread than a single bullet.
Once you’ve figured out the basics, this is incredibly fun. So it is also excellent training for leading a target with a long gun such as a rifle. This is particularly fascinating when using an over/under shotgun with various chokes. For instance, one barrel with the appropriate choke for short distances and one barrel for further distances.
Need: Shotgun, 150 rounds of birdshot factory ammo, eye & ear protection (prescription eyewear acceptable), and a positive attitude required.
Course Length: Approximately 8 hours including live fire training.
Shotgun III – Defensive Shotgun
The Shotgun II Firearms Course is a prerequisite for this class. The shotgun is one of the most efficient and adaptable weapons accessible to the average person. However, it’s also the most underappreciated and underutilized weapon system of them all. In this class you will learn how to choose, modify, feed, and operate a defensive shotgun for maximum effectiveness. Topics covered in this firearms class include:
- Firearms safety, including considerations specific to shotguns
- Historical context and development of the defensive shotgun
- Selection of the fighting shotgun
- Modifications and Accessories
- Ammunition selection and capabilities
- Patterning for optimum performance
- Nomenclature and mechanical operation
- Shooting technique
- Loading/reloading techniques
- Safe storage and ready conditions, including cruiser ready
- Care and maintenance
Need: 150 rounds of birdshot, and 50 rounds of buckshot. We have some loaner shotguns in proper configuration available.
